School Closure – Tuesday 5th July

Just a reminder, that the school will be closed to children on Tuesday 5th July due to nationwide strike action by members of the NUT.

The Multi Academy Trust Consultation Meetings will still go ahead in the Sports Hall as planned on the 5th at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.  The school will provide a crèche facility for those wishing to attend the 2.30pm session.

If you have any questions, please just let me know.

Invitation to Write

Use this line somewhere in your short story:

‘Peering over the edge, I saw…’

Things to think about:

Where are you? The edge of what?
What has happened just before this to take you to the edge?
What is about to happen?
What can you see? What is ‘it’ doing? What does it sound/smell like?

Remember to write a draft version before putting your story on the blog.

Weekly Round Up w/c 20th June

This week we continued with our text, The London Eye Mystery, for Literacy. We used the dramatic disappearance of Salim as a stimulus for writing in character as one of the children from the story.

In Maths, we looked at data handling. We looked specifically at line graphs and how we could plot points and then use the lines we’d plotted to find data from other points.

We continued our project on Life Cycles but this week our focus was the human reproductive system and the changes the human body goes through in order to be able to to reproduce. It brought up some very interesting discussion points.

And finally, of course, we all had a fantastic time on Sport’s Day! We were incredibly lucky with the weather and everyone gave it their absolute best to win points for their house. It was a lovely afternoon.

So, what did you enjoy the most, 5SL? What did you learn and find the most challenging?

dragon

Look at this picture of a tiny dragon. What’s the story behind this picture? What’s happening here? To help you start thinking about a story for this dragon, here are some questions you could ask yourself about it:

Where is it from?
Why is it so small?
Are there more like it?
Where does it live?
How will you look after it?
Will you keep it a secret or tell people?

Remember to write your invitation to write in draft form before writing it up on the blog.

Weekly Update w/c 13th June

Well, we had another packed week in 5SL! In Maths, we started the week looking at long multiplication. Then we looked at reading time tables, investigating if we could visit all the stops on the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railways! We later used our knowledge of time to calculate time intervals.

In Literacy, we continued with our book ‘The London Eye Mystery’. After having looked at and inferred how each of the characters were feeling the previous week, we used this information to write diary entries as Ted from the story. We then also looked at editing our work for any possible improvements.

In project we looked at the life cycle of birds and then also looked at the anatomy of eggs.

So, 5SL, what did you find most challenging? What did you most enjoy learning about?

A few more photos from Friday night

It’s a Knockout!

One of our Friday night activities was an obstacle course but with the added fun of having to carry around a bucket of water to fill up each teams tub by the finish line. Things got rather soggy!

The Animal Man’s visit…

More fun with the Animal Man

On Saturday morning we had a visit from the Animal Man, who brought in a whole host of animals. Some of us were lucky enough to touch some of them…
